School of Christmas Studies

XMAS 209 American Philanthropy

Students will explore the season of giving in the classroom and through a seasonal lab component.  They will learn and experience the art of giving back.

Course Description

Prof Emma has the following tips for aspiring philanthropists:

  • This class is basically just bell ringing
  • You ring bells and collect donations
  • Volunteer to ring a bell.. as a bell ringer

Prof Emma has the following comments about the syllabus: "Bell ringing has become an American staple of the holiday season. It evokes emotions of both fondness and anxiety depending on whether onlookers understand the American Philanthropy philosophy or just want to avoid eye contact and the inevitable guilt for not donating."

Prof Emma's final exam involves volunteering at a local bell ringing event.

Prof Emma presents the following qualifications for this course: "I created the field of Christmas Studies. The ENTIRE field."
